Now THIS is how a city should do fireworks!!! Here’s just a 10 min clip of Nashville’s 25 min coreographed show from this year. I spent an entire evening finding a way to see Fort Worth’s worthless 9 min of poo. I’ve put on a better show in my backyard! I’m hopeful to make it home for the 4th in 2009 for a show worth seeing.
Many of my technoloy-minded friends may already know about this…
I’ve recently “discovered” one of what I would consider the best musical creations of all time. It’s called Pandora.com. I tried it a couple years ago and it was lacking in quality. The site will now allow you to create your own radio station in just a few clicks. Seriously, I had signed up and was playing my first song in less than a minute. How it works??? After signing up, type in the name of a song or artist you like. Pandora plays it! While it’s playing your song it finds other songs that are similar and lines them up to play. So, it’s like XM Radio…but without the cost! I don’t have an iPhone…but am seriously considering one and here’s why… Pandora will stream your self-built radio stations through your phone! Just plug your phone into your car stereo and pick your self-made station. No more need for all that XM stuff with antenna’s and such ever again. Give it a try and come back and let me know what you think in the comments section here.
A coworker and friend was flying his small airplane on Saturday when it crashed. There were no survivors. John was one of the absolute nicest people I’ve met at Lockheed. He was always smiling. It’s still tough to think that he isn’t coming to work this morning. Have you considered where you’ll spend eternity? Events like this help me refocus on what’s important. Please keep the family of John Newman in your prayers.
On Saturday July 12th; Lauren, Mark (coworker), and myself ventured out to climb 2…yes, 2! 14,000+ foot mountains in one day. We began our hike just a few miles east of the Eisenhower Tunnel at the Bakerville exit. I had done this hike 7 years ago…and decided it was well worth a second trip. Just 2 miles into the hike we branched from the main trail to take the ridge up to Torreys Peak. The ridge was steep and definitely required focus. After reaching Torreys Peak we had some lunch, took a few pictures, and then descended to the saddle that connects Torreys to Grays. There were several snow fields…but none that gave us problems. We then ascended another 1000′ toGrays Peak where we enjoyed the mountain-top-experience once again before our trip back to the car. It was only 8 miles roundtrip…but the elevation difference over that stretch was so intense! Both Lauren and Mark did a fabulous job…especially Mark since this was his first mountain ever! I highly recommend either of these mountains for someone looking to climb their first (but would strongly encourage you to take the main trail and not the ridge!!!).Aside from the actual climb was the low, make that very low, fuel situation. Mark had driven the car last on Friday night and had mentioned that we would need gas on Saturday morning. I was handed the keys on the way out the door and didn’t even think about gas. Just as we hit our exit and began our climb-by-car up an extremely steep and bumpy dirt trail the fuel gage went from 65-miles left to the “low fuel” warning. There was no where to turn around since so many cars were going up - and it last read 65 - so we decided to chance it. By this point the gauge needle was below the E tick. We continued to climb for maybe 20 minutes before we got to the parking area. After the hike we jumped in, I said a prayer, and we proceeded, in neutral, down the mountain. Just after we began we picked up a couple of kids hitchhiking to their car at the bottom. We thought “sure, why not, maybe they’ll follow us to a gas station if we run out!!!” When we got to their car we realized we were in a Pontiac G6 and the car they left behind was a Subaru Outback!!! We dropped them off, immediately got on the interstate pointed downhill toward Denver for the nearest gas station. The trip computer said we were getting 99+mpg as we coasted in neutral once again. We saw a sign for gas and coasted in on fumes!!! NO WAY - what a blessing to not run out of gas! BTW - the guage was a good 1/8th of a tank BELOW the E!
